Tips for Selecting Straight Pins
The length and fineness of straight pins will vary according to their use. To help you get started learning the different types and their uses, we have listed a few general tips for selecting a pin.
Dressmaker Pins - For general sewing, 1 1/16".
Extra-Long Dressmaker Pins - For thicker fabrics in general sewing. 1¼".
Ball Point Pins - For knits and soft, stretchy fabrics, 1 1/16".
Metallic Pins - For craft projects and holiday decorations, 1½"
Pearlized Pins - Extra long multicolored craft pins, 1½"
T Pins - Sturdy, thicker pins for holding items flat when blocking or pressing, 1½"
Additional Tips:
Nickel plated steel and brass pins are rust and corrosion resistant. If you plan on leaving your plans in your project for a very long time, use a stainless steel pin for the most rust resistance.
If you are not sure which type of pins you, test them with a magnet. Brass or stainless steel pins will not stick to a magnet.
